The In-Business Projects was a strategic partnership between Light For The World (LFTW) and CDSK that brought together 3 Partner Organizations; Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC), Limuru Cheshire Home (Limuru), and Polycom Development Project (Kibera) to practice sustainable farming practices by growing edible gourmet mushrooms in a controlled environment by using waste coffee substrates as much as they can and supplying the harvest to Java House and other leading restaurants that are committed to including persons with disabilities in the labor market.
In-Business Overall Project Outcomes included: –
(a). Learning & Sharing
(b). Technical Training (on Mushroom Project & Business Development Training)
(c). Employment Opportunities
Though the project came to an end last year, CDSK continues to follow up on the sustainable enterprises by Assumption Sisters of Nairobi (Limuru Cheshire Home) who have embarked on mass production. The sales and main profit from the Mushroom Project not only provide an extra income for the home but also provides a platform for trainees with intellectual disabilities to horn vocational skills in agriculture.
