IECDE Project

Project Summary

The Inclusive Early Childhood Development & Education (IECDE) Project is a three-year (2022 –2025) implemented by Cheshire Disability Services Kenya under the auspices of Liliane Fonds at 15 selected centers (either anchored in the public primary or stand-alone public centers) in Kisumu, Siaya, and Kakamega counties.

Overall Goal:

Improved cognitive, socio-emotional, and life skills of children with disabilities between 0 -8 years and improved knowledge & practices about caregiving of parents/caregivers of children with disabilities.

Specific Objective

  • Improved child development outcomes for 210 children with various disabilities (physical, sensory, intellectual, complex/multiple disabilities _ deafblind) between the ages of 0-8 years in 3 Counties.
  • Increased availability of and access to 15 centers and non-center-based early learning opportunities including community and parenting programs that support children with disabilities in 3 Counties.
  • Improved inclusive education pedagogy for at least 60 ECDE teachers and lower primary teachers
  • By April 2025, contribute to the improvement of the quality of ECDE county policies in areas of project implementation and the national ECDE Policy from an inclusion perspective for improved resourcing, implementation, and monitoring.

Project Strategies

The project will utilize the following strategies namely: – Supporting Tools Enabling Parents(STEPs), Awareness Creation Lobbying and Advocacy, Capacity Development and Learning which encompasses play-based activities and child-centered activities for children with disabilities; multi-sectoral / multi-agency partnerships; research & documentation and modeling & scaling-up.
