Furnishing of a Disability-Inclusive Library at Maasai Technical Training Institute
On Friday, Cheshire Disability Services Kenya (CDSK) through the Work and Respect Project funded by Liliane Fonds furnished a disability-inclusive library at Masai Technical Training Institute (MTTI) in Kajiado County.
The handover ceremony was graced by the Work and Respect Regional Project Coordinator Ms. Mercy Akumu. The team donated Information Education and Communication materials (ICT) gadgets which included eight computers, 12 adjustable chairs, and an LCD screen to support the learning of trainees with disabilities in the institution.
Ms. Akumu applauded Masai Technical Training Institute for being an equal partner in advancing an enabling training environment for learners with disabilities.
“The success of this resource center is a result of a great partnership between MMTI and CDSK. MTTI did their part through the re-carpeting and installation of sockets which provided room for reciprocity,” said Ms. Akumu.
The Deputy Principal in charge of Administration, Ms. Teresia Njue, noted that the resource centre will support learning, research, and even social interactions among students with disabilities. She added that the facility will pave way for online teaching for not only ICT students, but all learners including those without disabilities to enable them to understand the importance of creating an enabling environment for all.
“Today we have seen the culmination of a journey that started as a dream. The fully-equipped and accessible resource center will provide an equal digital literacy space for our learners with disabilities,” said Ms. Njue while receiving the donations in Kajiado.
